Welcome to Walking Rhodes

This is a unique opportunity to take a walking holiday on the fascinating island of Rhodes.  Join our team of trained, knowledgeable and experienced walking leaders that will take you along paths known only to a few of the locals.

Contrasting landscapes, an opportunity to experience Greek culture and a wealth of history on this beautiful island bathed in sunshine for most of the year.

Owen Pearce

Owen Pearce has walked and climbed all over the UK including summer and winter climbing and a massive trek known as the Cambrian Way of 280 miles from Cardiff to Conwy over the mountains. He has recently graduated from Bangor University where he studied Ecology and hold Mountain leader (summer) and SPA (single pitch climbing) awards. Always up for an adventure.

How did you get involved with Walking Rhodes?:
While studying at Bangor University I did some freelance mountain leader work. I made a few contacts along the way and eventually came across Walking Rhodes. Thinking there might be some prospects for a job on finishing my degree I got in touch with Stephen and subsequently met up with him in the Greek bar in Bangor. Two days after my last exam I flew out to Rhodes and started guiding walks!
What are you involved in?:
Primarily I am involved with guiding walks in Rhodes. However, this summer I have had the opportunity to work on some more diverse projects for Walking Rhodes through the GoWales placement scheme.
Name three things you always take with you walking in Rhodes?:
I find a broad brimmed hat and strong sun cream essential; I also like to take along wildlife ID guides. The flora and fauna of Rhodes is fascinating.
What the most important thing you have learnt about walking in Rhodes?:
The beer at the end of the day tastes twice as good after a nice walk.
Is there anything you miss most when working in Rhodes?:
I’m with Stephen on this one, I proper pint of ale.
Whats you favourite Greek meal?:
Having a Mezes is great, very sociable and you can try a bit of everything.
What is your favourite snack?:
Dried fruit and nuts.
What other interests do you have aside from walking?:
Mainly rock climbing but also cycling, sea-kayaking, music, reading, wildlife and beer brewing.
