Embonas, wine district of Rhodes €35pp
Duration:
2hrs walking, followed by wine and souma tasting and exploring Embonas village Choosing to walk within the Embonas wine area is rewarding experience, although this is a relatively short walk it does pack in a fare amount of various things to see and do. Starting from the car park this circular walk will take you through pine trees, walk past small gorges, sporadic fields of vines in between olive trees with panoramic views. On your return take the opportunity to sit on the dwarf wall in the shade (if required there is a WC here). Continue into Embonas village to try out the free wine tasting, meander around the village it has an excellent choice of tavernas and tourist shops. A short walk out of the village heading for Monolithos is a Souma distillery and taverna. Emponas boasts the Emery winery which produces much of Rhodes best wine.
The landscape surrounding the village is very attractive with vineyards climbing the steep foothills to the mountain above.
Equipment:
You will require walking boots and walking socks for support and comfort while walking. It is advisable to wear light long sleeve shirts and light trousers in addition to a sun hat, sun cream sunglasses. You should bring a rucksack, as it will be necessary to carry your lunch, personal items and at least one litres of water.
Food:
It is advisable to have some food with you, our walk starts in Embonas and finishes in Embonas which allows plenty of nourishment to be sourced before the walk and a relaxing drink after the walk in any of the family run tavernas, at a minimum carry 1 litre of water and some fruit on this walk
Walking conditions:
You will find yourself mainly on dirt tracks, although there are some inclines and off the path areas to negotiate, but generally it is more easy than moderate walking, not a lot of shade on this route, ensure you have adequate clothes and a suitable hat protecting you from the sun.
Stops & Breaks:
This is a short walk which allows plenty of time for stops and breaks, but it is advisable to keep moving while you are in the sun and take breaks when we come across some shade from the mature trees that can be found on side of the path.
